B12

I am a waitress and have always had an aching back attributed to having a hard on the body job.  I see a chiropractor regularly and in May of 08 was put on Ibuprofen 800 and flexeril 10mg (I believe).  I was still working and the pain was stable but still tight.  On June 12th I was carrying a tray that was pretty sizable and I had ahold of it for a long time.  My left arm started to smasm hard and my arm gave out.  I lost the entire tray right in front of the table so that was fun.  Everything that happened after that is a bit fuzzy but mainly I stayed around to help pour water until the manager on duty could take an injury report.  I went in to the urgent care the next day and was told I had a sprain just keep taking my Ibuprofen and ice it.  Ten days later I was supposed to return to work but was still hurting.  So into the work comp system I went.  My case was denied because they decided to request my previous medical records and "Didn't receive them in time to give my case approval" (they have 90 days to accept or deny).  Meanwhile I am being treated by a physician who checks me every 4 weeks to see if I am better. I am told to take 800mg Ibu 3 times a day and vicodin as needed.
He got me 6 physical therapy sessions about 10 weeks after I got hurt.  I was (and still am) working as a hostess at my job and getting no help and very little money.  My stress level went through the roof.
In Sept I retained an attorney she got me into an orthopedic in Nov.  I left his office crying because he didn't seem to think my shoulder was serious but atleast ordered an MRI and xray for the first time.  All I am getting is to keep taking the Ibuprofen and he put me on Soma.
The MRI and Xrays were scheculed for Dec 2 right before I went to see him again.  The xrays and MRI showed nothing supposedly worth worrying about, but he didn't show them to me or discuss them and I let him give me a cortizone shot.  My diagnosis at this point is tendonitis (bicep and tricep) and bursitis.  I have had previous discomfort and dislike cortizone but I felt that was the only thing that may work.
That was the 2nd of Dec.  I woke up Dec 7th and my right side neck and shoulder muscles hurt and my thumb and forefinger on the right hand were asleep.  I called on Dec 8th to my Personal Physicial and they wouldn't see me due to possible Work Comp.
The work comp doc office wouldn't give me any advice accept go to the emergency room.  I went to Urgent care and got them to say that I had a pinched nerve that was not work related. My xrays showed a straight cervical spine, mild degeneration aroun C4 and C5 but no significant narrowing This got me free to see my Physician (I have great insurance I forgot to mention that).
My arm progressively got worse and I got into the MD on Dec 19th.  He diagnosed Thoracic Outlet Symdrome due to lack of pulse when I raised my right arm and turned my head.  Due to the pain, muscle spasms, and family history, this seemed right on.  I went to one physical therapy session then 2 days later I spun my car out in ice and flopped my neck around a bit.  I went to physical therapy 3 days after the spinout and felt some relief.  The Therapist stuck to Tens Unit and massage.  I continued for 3 visits that week starting light stretching on the 3rd day.  My symptoms would feel about 20% better for a short time after therapy but return in full within a couple of hours. By the middle of therapy I could no longer write or hold onto anything (basically just a slow progression no matter what we tried).
I was supposed to return to the doc on Jan 30th, but I decided to return much sooner when the idea of atrophy in my hand began to scare me.
The pulse test was normal and he ruled out TOC.  He ordered a cervical MRI and blood work right away.  So I feel lucky compared to most to have had a doctor take me seriously right away.
The blood test shows B12 levels of 308 and Doc told me to supplement B12.
I received the Spinal MRI T2 no dye which showed  Two hyperintensities within the right Dorsal spinal cord at C2-C3 and C4-C5 and one very small hyperintensity along the right inferior ventricular.
Meanwhile my personal symptoms have improved and are now getting worse again.  I got back to the point where I can feel when I pick some thing up as long as it is not too small.  I can write and type again, but now the tingiling in my arm is getting worse and for the past 3 days I can feel it developing in my legs.  I have a brain MRI in 2 days.
The Physician is pretty sure it looks like MS and I am on the cancellation list for a Neuro with a for sure appt March 11.
Ok that is about all of the typing I Have in me, but that pretty much sums it up. I am here to seek answers and support.
I have the help of my husband when I specifically ask for it, and may need some training tips there too :)

Thanks for Listening and I hope to meet some friends.

Hi Danielle,
Welcome to the MS forum.  I saw your note that you have received a positive DX - I hope you will stick around here and ask questions, compare notes, and keep company with these fine people.  Knowing you're not alone is so healthy! When you feel up to it, post some details on what treatment you and your neuro have decided to follow.
Stay positive in your attitude.... that's the best medicine.

My best,
Laura/Aka: Lulu
