HI! My husband was diagnosed with diverticular disease 2 years ago. You definitely need to eat more fiber, less red meat. At first, he was eating seeds, nuts corn, etc. I noticed he was often in more pain after. Well, he ended up in the hospital again in December. It was serious, 5 days on IV with nothing to eat/drink. Then intro to liquids, jello, broth, and very soft foods. Well, since then, he has avoided anything with seeds. He is also eating a probiotic yogury every day. And, he totally craves daikon radish - which, it turns out, contains an enzyme that aides in digestion. He doesn't have constant daily pain. He is on the list for surgery.
You are the only one who knows whether or not you can tolerate seeds and nuts. Keep a food diary and track it, then you will know. I think women need 28g of fiber a day, men-35 or so.
If you start to have lots of pain, eat more soft type foods and fruits and cooked veggies-stay away from grain fiber as it is more coarse. I think it's called BRATTY=banana, rice, applesauce, tea, toast, yogurt.
My husband is very sensitive to meat fat now-we eat tons of fish, chicken breast and pork loin (no fat).
If you need help with diet ideas, let me know!
Have a nice day.
Shelly
