Please if anyone out there suffers from Gastroparesis I'd like to hear from you. My symptoms are scary at times and I wonder if I'm the only one with extreme discomfort.

I am with you all too.  None of the meds prescribed have helped.  I have so much pain in my abdomen I am not convinced that gastroparesis is my only problem.

Hello. I have had GP for over ten years now. I have had the gastric pacemaker twice, three feeding tubes, numerous rounds of botox, a pyloroplasty, balloon dilatations, port-a-cath for TPN and most recently a partial stomach and intestine removal. I am 39 years old and gastroparesis is a struggle everyday. I can relate to the abdominal pain and decreased appetite. Be careful with Reglan, it has a black box warning and can cause irreversible tardive dyskinesia. I would be more than happy to answer any questions because this illness can be scary. Especially if it is "idiopathic". If they do not know what caused it, how can they fix it???

I've been having stomach and intestinal issues for 2 years as of this February and I understand your fear.  Today I was JUST diagnosed with idiopathic gastroparesis.  Reglan never helped me and it took several doctors to find meds that would provide some relief from what they were diagnosing originally as "IBS & Reflux". The only mix of meds that have helped me have been Nexium and Amitriplyn.  The Amitriplyn will make you groggy, but it's a med that you normally take at bed time to help with the misery of laying down.  I am no longer on the amitriplyn by choice and am taking 2 pills of Nexium per day as prescribed by my GI.  If you haven't tried this combo yet, it'd be worth it. I'd also use Zanax as needed, I noticed that anxiety and pain play off on each other and some times the Zanax is the only thing that could get my tummy under control!  My GI just started me on Boosbar (sp?) for the stomach tension, not sure if it'll help yet, but the goal is to have more good days then bad days so only time will tell! ;)

Over the counter recommendations:
Gas-X Chewables
Pepto Bismal pills for diahrea

Best Wishes!

Hi. I am 14 years old and have been struggling with gastroparesis for over a year. Currently I eat around 300 calories a day and i am only able to even try ensure twice a week. My stomach gets SO BLOATED!!!! it kills so now i am at home... missing school.. AGAIN. It ***** but i am so grateful that i can go to school at least twice a week. In 20 days im going to be flying to nationwide in columbus. They are not giving me a pacemaker yet but they are going to do alot of tests. I lost 20 pounds in the begginng of this and also had problems with dehydration. I take 2 capfuls of miralax a day, prevacid for my acid refulx problem, and many vitiamins. I always keep a positive attitude about everything but really.. its *****. I would love to hear from you about your life now!! :)

Haven't been on here for over a year. I still have horrible stomach upsets but I gave up on medications. Nothing that I tried helped. I have just been living day to day. I have found that eating small amounts helps with the bloating and stomach pain. Noticed that some foods effect me more than others too.
At times I can go a few days without too much discomfort and other times I may feel awful for a few days straight. Anyone else experience this too???

hi my name is bridgette i am 47 years old with an ileostomy through slow transit, GP and inflamitory bowel condition as well as proctitus. i was diagnosed 15yr ago and had a colostomy in the first instance, followed very quickly by a total collectomy and ileostomy. over the years i have had surgery after surgery for prolapses and obstructions. i suffer severe vomitting which results in dehydration and malabsortion. i also have an incissional hernia. at the moment i take durogesic patches and lozenges for the constant pain as well as motilium, stemital and zofran for the sickness and lanzaprozol for the exess acid. my surgeon has now told me that i have to have the hernia and stoma repaired and my back passage removed which as you know is a big op. the illness is driving me up the wall, i now find that i am unable to leave the house for prolonged periods due to all of the above. the illness is now taking over my life until august of last year i was managing to work full time as a nurse. now i am at my witts end with it all and scared stiff as to what happens next. have been told that the pacemaker would maybe help the GP but because of the slow transit bowel is probably not suitable option. can anyone suggest any other meds or anything that may help me get my life back to some semblance of normality. heres hoping someone out there can help xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
