I finally got the nerve to let my 1st line gyn-oncologist know I wanted to do my chemo at the new cancer office right at the hospital where I work. If it was surgery, it would be different. But chemo is the same no matter who's chair you're sitting in and I picked the best place for me. If egos get bruised, well, they're both grown men and they'll have to deal with it. I'm the patient and what's best for me is what they both should be focusing on. So, I'm over that part. I decided on Gemzar and took this weeks session without the port. No surgeon available until next week to do that procedure. I didn't have a port for my initial sessions in 06/07. So the Gemzar is 3 weeks on with 1 week off. First drip was for and hour and a half of Gemzar. It burned a little at the entry sight, but a warm compress releived it. Because of more reports of perforation problems with Avastin, my medical oncologist changed his mind about including it with the Gemzar. Also, I believe my insurance carrier won't approve it for OVCA without an appeal process. We'll see how my number drops before going back and considering adding it in. Here it is Sunday -day 3 after Gemzar and no noticable side-effects for this time. I belong to a local OVCA support group and today I went to my 4th service for a member who has passed in the 16 months I've been part of this group. It just makes me more determined to raise my voice with others in supporting research and awareness of this most deadly gyn cancer. I will miss her and honor her by continuing our shared mission.
