I am 7 weeks pregnant and I go to cousiling every week for my addiction problem. I first was taking suboxone in september and got pregnant in October of 07 and I knew nothing about the meds. and being prego I had decided to get off the meds and did it cold turkey not knowing that I would have withdraw symtoms. I went off of them right around X-Mas and a few days later had a miscarriage. Pretty much that spun me right back into taking drugs. I realized very quickly that the life I have is way to valuable so I found a different doctor and went back on the suboxone. Well 2 weeks ago I found out that I am prego again and this time because the new doc. exucated me on the meds. switched me to subutex as soon as I told him about the pregnancy. He told me it is much safer to stay on the meds. with taking me down in dosage a little at a time because having any withdraw symtoms can do something to your uterus and cause a miscarriage. I also asked my OB/GYN and they said the same thing. So basically there is no garurntee that you won't experience a mis. or any birth defects but it is better to stay on them till you and all your doctors have agreed that you can come off of them. I hope this helped you.

I am 5 months pregnant and have been in treatment with suboxone/subutex for over 2 years.  Once I realized I was pregnant, the doc immediately swithed my med to subutex b/c it is safer, obviously.  He has had 3 women prior to me that have successfully carried to term and delivered with absolutely no problem at all.  I have been doing well and the baby is just fine.  I am due in October and hope to have a healthy baby.  There is always a risk with any medication, however, but the pros outweigh the cons in this situation.  I am an opioid addict and do not want to deliver an addicted daughter.  So, to me, the subutex option is the only option.  That, in addition to my weekly NA meetings.  You really must do both to defeat this addiction.
