I love Fridays

Sep 14, 2007 01:33PM - 3 comments

Friday is my favorite day of the week. There is great anticipation of breaking the routine of the week and getting a bit of down time. What makes Friday extra special is that Saturday follows :)

I used to love Fridays as well, especially after dinner, as the weekend drew nearer.
Then I had a couple of jobs (including Holiday Representative), which meant I worked 36+ hours solid over the weekend.
Then I had children and the weekend no longer meant wild nights out, it meant getting a lie in (if I was lucky).
But I still like the change of rhythm the weekend has from the weekdays.

Sally, I felt that pain. During different times my life, I worked day, evening, and night shifts as well as every holiday. At one point, I worked the day shift, my wife worked the evening shift, and we worked opposite weekends. This went on for a few years. Those where our hospital days.

Now , finally, things have settled. I'm in a field  I passionately love, but it's very volatile (lots of layoffs, acquisitions, etc.). I never know what the future will bring. It's always something .

This last year my husband and I have completely changed tack.  He now works part time and we have rented out a field and have got all kinds of animals.  We have 14 goats, 7 sheep, 3 geese, 100 chickens etc etc.  The idea is to grow our own produce.  But there are so many people who ask us about it and want to buy eggs/meat etc from us.  Many people say they would like to do the same but can't afford to.  But I think however much money you have you will always find something to spend it on.  We don't go short of anything (essentials), and I really don't buy into the consumer lifestyle because it is such a waste (plus I am a bit of a hoarder).  Sometimes I think we live life so fast when if we slowed down we might actually find some time to do things we love.  I know this probably sounds silly (I must have watched too many sci-fi movies), but I think we need to keep the life skills that our parents/grandparents etc had.  If there ever was a worldwide catastrophe (how dramatic!), most people would starve after they had raided the shops.  Not that I know much about anything, but I feel so many skills are being lost.
