I noticed your posting was a while ago. My son, 14 months was put on Keppra for his generalized seizures 3 weeks ago and I noticed when he falls asleep he will twitch sometimes. Are they Myoclonic seizures? I also noticed sometimes it takes him a long time to fall asleep. The other night he was up to 3 am. He also is having little fits and is crying a lot more. Have you been noticing this also?

I wondered the same thing.  My daughter went under a 24 hour EEG to see if these where seizures.  She was having tics, but they were not seizures.  They said some were tics and some were self-stimmulatory activity.  Her tics were all day long.  Since school has stopped they are not as bad.  I am also wondering if it is not a side-effect from the Keppra.  When I bring this up to the neurologist she will say well lets try this or lets do that.  It is frustrating.  When I try to call to talk to her or her nurse I get to play phone tag.  I am really frustrated with her.  When we go back (which is the only time I get to talk to her) I am demanding they take her off the Keppra or it is off to another neurologist.

On another note, my daughter was also diagnosed with high-functioning autism about a year ago.  That is where the self-stimmulatory activity comes in.  My daughter does have days where she is up most of the night.  She has fits and cries alot too.  I know what your going through.  The question is did the insomnia, fits, and crying start after the keppra or before?  It is important to mention this to the neurologist.  Also check into symptoms of autism spectrum disorder to see if it fits.  No matter what anyone tells you this is your child and you know what is right and what is wrong.  Follw your heart and good luck.
