Starting a new thyroid medication today called Cytomel. Still taking the Synthroid too, but now also taking the Cytomel. Yeah, I'm supposed to be taking both... don't worry, I checked, I checked twice, with both doctors... the one who prescribed it and with my family doctor.

We'll see how it works out. Maybe my hair will stop being so freakin' brittle... it's been awful lately.

I also need to go get a hair cut... to help with the fact I have such awful hair... but... it is SO hard to get a hair cut because of my migraines and because of the chiari... having my neck/head put into all those awful positions while the hair dresser does his thing... it's unbearable. But... even people with great "healthy" hair need to get their hair cut so they don't get split ends and stuff... and, in my case, it is even MORE necessary...

*sigh* oh well, since the headaches are back this week Anyway... I might make an appointment to get my hair cut. Then maybe what with the short hair and with the help of the new thyroid meds... maybe my hair won't be so so so terrible... I remember after I first started taking the Synthroid and my thyroid levels got to a normal level... people started randomly commenting on how beautiful my hair was. It would be nice to hear that again at some point.

I'm sorry your headaches are back.  About the haircut difficulties, I have a kind of strange idea for you.  My father thought of it actually.  He used a buzzing electronic razor type item, (I don't remember what they are called exactly), to cut my hair very quickly.  Basically I just brush my hair straight, and he leans the buzzer into my hair several times in a straight line.  It's not perfectly straight of course, but it's presentable.  It's also fast, you only have to keep your head straight and still for a little more than a minute.  Also too, there is a conditioner called Aussie 3 Minute Miracle that might help with your brittle hair.  I hope that helps!  :)

That is an Awesome idea about the buzzer... That's how I always get my bangs cut because I think my bangs look the best when they're cut like that.. I should TOTALLY get that done with the rest of my hair!! THANKS!!!! :) :) :)

Hi there,
2 suggestions for you:
1) I have the same issues you do with going to the hairdresser, but I found one that has a special foam/rubber insertion thing that they put into the indentation in the hair washing sink where your neck goes, and it very comfortably cushions your neck so it feels more like you're wearing the back of your Aspen neck collar...the shop I go to is in North Miami, FL on Biscayne Blvd., and the name of the place is Zuka...maybe you could call them to ask where they got it and buy one or ask your salon to get one for you to use.
2) My hair was also extremely brittle and I started to use Ojon products, which you can google online to get...it is all natural and made from some seeds from Central America that the indigenous people there discovered...they have shampoos, coonditioner, a special hydrating paste, etc., and they sell it at Sephora and at QVC, as well as other places....

Hope that these suggestions are helpful for you and that you feel better.
