Birth Story 4/29/13

May 08, 2013 - 4 comments

Thank you for all of your sweet comments and prayers during this time in our lives! We feel so blessed to have our sweet angel here and healthy.

Well, I went into the hospital on 4/29 for a scheduled c section because of having complete placenta previa. I was under the impression that I would be able to be awake during the surgery and that my husband would be able to be in there. Well, the anesthesiologist came in and told me that since I have complete placenta previa, he will not do a spinal block. He said that I would have to be put to sleep due to the risk of losing blood and so on. He didn't want me hearing everything going on and my husband seeing everything in case something were to go wrong. So, that freaked me out and I got really upset, but soon realized that it would be for the best because I wouldn't want to know if something were to go wrong either.

So, they take me back for surgery and whew that was a scary feeling! At 9:43am, our 8lb 8oz, 21 inch long beautiful baby girl was born! Her daddy was so excited to see her sweet little face, but was also worried about how I was doing as well. When I woke up I was in a tremendous amount of pain. So much so that I couldn't even focus on the fact that my baby was born. Finally, they were able to get the pain under control and my husband showed me all of the pictures of our sweetie until I could get in a regular room and see her. It was so unbelievable to finally hold her in my arms. I still can't believe God has given us the opportunity to raise one of his precious children! She is so perfect!

Soon after surgery, when I was able to comprehend after the pain went away, I found out that I had lost a large amount of blood because of the placenta previa. I had to get my hemoglobin checked SO much. It got down to a 6.3 from a 12.1 before surgery so I had to have two blood transfusions. That was the hardest part of the whole process because I was SOOO weak and they wouldn't let me get up until the end of the second day with fear that I would pass out. I actually almost did the first time I got up.

I am not almost back to normal and enjoying every minute with my baby girl! Thank you again for all of your prayers!!

Wow!  That's a scary birth story!  I'm glad you're alright, and congratulations on your baby girl!

I once had a secondary infection acquired during a D&C, and I lost a lot of blood due to it.  I remember how painful the whole ordeal was, and how annoying it was when they checked my numbers.  I had tracks!  Weren't they just helping the blood loss out?  I got to the lowest they would allow before the transfusion(9ish from 13ish), I even signed papers.  Ended up being disappointed I couldn't get it because I felt so incredibly weak, and I knew that blood would make me feel better.  Wouldn't want to ever experience it again!
