Perception

Apr 01, 2008 06:34AM - 2 comments

I have been talking to alot of people recently here in this forum through PM.  As many know, I am feeling better and have been weaning myself off of the Ativan (with the help of my therapist and doctor of course).  I was just thinking that my 'symptoms' have not really changed one bit throughout this whole process.  I still feel the chest pains, and feel 'dizzy' in the mornings, but I just believe that the interpretation of them now is different.  Aches and pains are a part of life, and so many people feel these but interpret them as normal bodily sensations, which in the vast majority of cases they are.  Could I kick the bucket running today? Sure, there will be someone that does, but millions of others will successfully complete their exercise routine and be healthier for it.  Everything we do has an inherent risk and focusing on the ones that we can control gives us a little more sanity and peace.  Statistically, I was more at risk this morning fighting rush hour traffic.

Now, I still have challanges and this is by no means over by a long shot, and I will and have had bad days.  That is another important point; ups and downs are also a part of life, so do not get discouraged when you have one.  Pick up and be happy for this day:)  I have seen so much progress from many people here on this forum and just want to ensure everyone knows that it is nice and inspiring to see!

Chris,

I say Amen to your comment. I continue most days to experience anxiety in some way. My percetion of what I deal with has changed a lot since diagnosed with GAD. I know what it is, what to expect and understand I have more control over it than it does me. We can be our own worst enemy or our best friend. You are doing GREAT and have made great strides since the first day I met you. I salute you my friend and wish you continued progress.

Blessings,
PEACE
Marie
