I was 21 when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. It started with a cystectomy. I was told I didnt need to have the cystectomy right away, but I insisted. I had biopsies sent out because of the uncertainty of the pathology results. It came back positive for early stage ovarian cancer. serous adinocarcinoma. I was given two opinions in one day. #1- either I can have a hysterectomy and chemo or just chemo, #2 I must get a hysterectomy or he probably wouldnt beable to cure me. I went to another doctor who took the middle and said that they would commit to removing just my ovaries but may change their mind once they get in there.
I ended up getting a full hysterectomy.
I then went through 4.5 months of chemotherapy with carboplatin and plaxitaxol. I had an IP port and an IV port. I lost 10 pounds in a week, have hearing damage. they ended up switching from carboplatin to cysplatin half way through.

I still see a gyn-oncologist every 6 months. I havent had an elevated CA125 ever through all of this, and I get scans done every 4-6 months.

There was no family history of breast or ovarian cancer in my family, but I just had my blood taken for the genetic testing.

I am so very sorry to hear you have OVCA.  You are far too young to have to deal with this.  I will hope and pray they got it early and you will not have to ever deal with this again.  Judy

I am 21 yrs old and have recently been diagnosed with ovarian cancer stage 1c and have been told that if i want to have a child and beat the cancer, then i need to become pregnant asap, and have a full hysterectomy in 10 -12 months to beat the cancer, i have been given this option because i am so young and the cancer has been present for approx 3 -4 years and has not progressed past stage 1, so as a young female in a serious relationship, we want to have kids, although i am scared that something will go wrong and i am looking for others who have been in similar situations or the same situation who can give me some insight into what i can expect and what to do now?? i really want to have a child but i want to ensure that i will survive this.
