What  think about physical Therapy

May 01, 2009 12:00AM - 2 comments

I went to physical therapy twicw this week. Tuesday I felt the same pain and stiffness when I left as whenI arrived. I went home took meds a rested. The next day I could walk etc.On Thurs when i went I was able to do more but my lower back left side was hurting but not bad.  I left Pt went to the store drove home. I rested and my hubby and I went out to eat. Well the pain starting heating up. I could hardly walk and getting in and out of the car was tough. Well last nite was just miserable. The pain was unbelieveable. I mean I had pain on the left lower side of back. I was taking baby steps to the bathroom. It was extremely hard. I think the pt made it worse!!!! I mean I've been in bed all day. My lowerback, chest , shoulders and neck are hurting. Maybe I should have gone straight home after pt. I'm not as stiff in the morning but now it seems like something is wrong with my hip on left side. I hope it's not my hip. Thank God I go to the dr on Monday. It seems like the cycling and arm excerises are maybe too much. It seems like it knocked something out of wack in my back and hip. I don't know what's worse the stiffness in the morning or the less stiffness and more pain.

Hi, I hope you're doing better now.  My experience with PT (I've done it 3 times for neck, back, arms) was that it makes the pain worse.  I'm sorry to say it, but I just cannot tolerate it.  Towards the end of the one for my arms, I told the guy that I refuse to do strength training anymore as I just can't handle the pain.  If something is causing you more pain, how can that be helping?  Then he kept it to massage, heat and ice therapy and stretching, and I did better.

I think for fibro, all the strengthening exercises and, especially weights, just cause more pain in some of us.  At least that's how I am.  I used to go to the gym and lift weights all the time until I got this disease.  Now I can't do it.

Hi Cindee, Thanks for your input. I don't do any weight lifting. It did cause pain. The only thing I'm doing is the bike. I can take that as long as I go home and take it easy.  As far as my neck goes they just massage it. I mean I still have pain but I'm not as stiff in the mornings. I did get that tens thing for the muscles. Now that helps with the heat and then the ice . I use it on very low. It helps some. I'm beginning to realize nothing takes all the pain away. It just enables us to function somewhat. I just ask my rheumy what about the fatigue and he didn't have an answer. I'm trying to take it one day at a time. I know for sure if I over do it . Well I'm down like three or four days..Thanks again for sharing.
