Since my last post, many months ago, I have been on a medical nightmare rollercoaster. Between bouts of incredible pain, black periods of depression, loss of quality of life and usefulness I tried to understand what had become of the person I used to be. That person died on the operating table. What was resurrected is nothing but a breathing, pain-racked guinea pig. I consented to a "minimally invasive" procedure touted, by 2 doctors, as an easy fix for Stress Urinary Incontinance.  The doctor swore more than a thousand successful procedures had been done. The doctor said I would be better than new in a few weeks. There were a few things the doctor forgot to mention...

I wasn't told that the device they were implanting could migrate, erode or cause repeated infections.  I wasn't told that nerve damage was almost a certainty if the device was angled wrong. I wasn't told that this device had no history of clinical trials, that I WAS the clinical trial.  I wasn't offered any other option.  I wasn't told that no one would listen to me in the days, weeks and months after implant. I wasn't told that I would be ignored, mistreated, misdiagnosed and sent from doctor to doctor, most of whom would give me drugs and send me home. I wasn't told I would lose my job, my quailty of life or my sanity.

Anyone who has had pain, erosion and or infections after having surgery involving mesh should go to Injury Board.com and read the articles(1, 2 &3) entitled "Suffering in Silence from a Medical Device" Be sure to read the comments section and add your own. Truth in Medicine.us.com also explains many things that doctors do not. Women and men all over the world are suffering the adverse effects of mesh, don't suffer in silence.

Add your voice. Please.

Also, if you haven't already done so, go to the FDA website and add your injury to the MAUDE database. The more people that come forward, the sooner mesh will be removed from the operating room.
