Avoiding compounding injuries

Having played sports very actively for a long time I've learned how easy it is to compound injuries. You hurt your ankle and once you start resuming the sport your body compensates and your movement changes. If you push it this will inevitable lead to a new injury in a different part of your body (e.g. hip). Having gone through this I have realized that it is so important to prevent muscular atrophy during recovery and then to resume the sport slowly. Most of us don't make our living from sports and so as tempting as it is to speed up the recovery it is wise to take it slowly and prevent more damage.
