Injured Spirit

Apr 17, 2008 04:28AM - 2 comments

I sustained a fall three weeks ago as I was entering an elevator. The elevator didn't fall flush with the floor and my left foot became stuck, and I fell face first. Even though I didn't suffer any broken bones, I am in excruciating pain. The right side of my body took the brunt of the fall. After three weeks I am finally scheduled to have an MRI for the following: Cervical, Thoracic and Lumbar; without contrast. It hurts when I breathe. I can't lie flat on my back, or on either side because my back spasms badly. My right leg and groin area feels as if I have a rubber band wrapped around it. I injured both knees, and broke three toes on my left foot. The fingers in both my hands are numb. I was on the job when this happened, so I don't have to tell you how "Worthless Comp" has treated me. I'm awake now because I can't sleep. The pain to my right rib cage, and upper back has me in tears. What do I have to do to convince ANYONE that I am in pain. The "WC" doctor says I don't have any broken bones, so therefore; I should feel better in 6.5 days. HUH???? I am not a slacker. I have worked since I was eight-years old, but I have been treated like a criminal. I did nothing wrong. The building where I was leaving the meeting was negligent because they had NO signs posted regarding the faulty elevator. I'm not a clumsy person by nature, and am not sue-happy, either. I just want someone to help alleviate the pain. I asked about physical therapy, but all the doctor said to me was that I should do whatever feels good to me. Again, another HUH???? Help.... Any advice from anyone out there? Thanks in advance, and May God keep you in his favor always!

I think your doctor was right, there's no justification in you seeing a physiotherapist, all they will do is put you through exercises that you feel comfortable doing, in which you can do at home for free. I'm not a doctor, but I'm basically going to tell you the same thing, get some exercise balls/weighs (no machines!!) and do some basic exercises at home while watching TV, go for walks during the day. Seems to me your muscles have cramped up from the fall and you've irritated some joints. You say you broke 3 toes on your foot, and then go and say that WC wont do anything because you don't have any broken bones.. Huh? That's besides the point.

You need to exercise to your limit, only you can tell yourself what is comfortable for you. No sense in spending the money to have a doctor tell you what they think you should do. Take my advise, get some exercise equipment (again, no machines please) and do basic activities to stimulate those areas, start out small, if it hurts, do something less. Walking works a lot of your muscles in generous ways, this will help, if using the balls/weights hurts at first, just start with walking.

I am not a doctor nor do I claim to know how to treat you . You will get no advice from me about exercise or walking . I say if you were hurt at work and you are in pain stay the course. I do not think you can be told that your pain is not valid until you have had the proper tests done to determine this! We all know that some major spinal injuries may require an MRI to reveal them . That turned out to be the case for me . It makes me sick when people (whom ever they may be ) assume all people in pain are liars !! Some of us have real and valid reasons for our pain .  If your pain persist's do not let them blow you off . It took 5 years for my father to be diagnoses with cancer and it took his life in the end . By the time they figured it out he had no hope of fighting it . He told me that" if you know you have something wrong with you DO NOT GIVE UP . Make them keep looking until they find it , it is your life we are talking about ." Good advice from a good man .
