ENT finally called me back re: what do we do now...She said that we will keep an eye on the cyst in my thyroid, but, for now nothing else for her to do...I said, ok, what about the pain in my parotid gland, neck and ear and the swelling in my chin/chins??  She asked if I had been checked for TMJ!!!!  I said this is not TMJ, the pain and swelling started with the parotid gland and thyroid mass!!!  So basicially she gave me the brush off...dumped me!!  She said that I don't need to see her for a year...and that I should be grateful that I don't have cancer!!!!!!  She will not be seeing me in a year...or ever!  She told me that I should see an Endocrinologist to pursue my other symptoms, but, did not refer me to anyone!!!  My frustration has not been eased and I feel let down by yet another DR who just passes the buck and sends me on my way to solve this mystery on my own!!  I know many people on this site have gone thru this very same thing and are probably nodding their heads as they read this...and it is comforting knowing that I am not alone.
I don't really know whether I should see an Endo or if I should go straight to a Rheumy!!!!  Your feedback is definitely welcome and advice most needed...thanks guys!!

For the most part, from what I have experienced, endos are mostly diabetic drs.  i understand fully your frustration with the drs.

Have they checked your thyroid levels?

You would think there would be decent doctors near such a big city!  If you can, go see both.  No point in wasting time.  Some doctors list their specializations online, so I would either look them up or call and ask what their specializations are ahead of time, to make sure they will be familiar with thyroid (Endo) and salivary gland swelling (Rheumy).  Also, if you have any good pictures of your neck/face before the swelling and now with the swelling I'd take them to your appointment for comparison.

You would think that calling and asking would be a good idea, but I did that. Most endos are so egotistical that they think they do it all, and you get there and you know more than they do.

I am a perfect example of that. I called before going to see one, almost 2 hours away, "Oh yes, he specializes in thyroid adrenal too". I get there, and try telling him about how my adrenal gland is involved, I can feel the adrenaline rushing through my body during the night. To which he replied, your adrenal gland does not make adrenaline. I'm thinking "WHAT."  I knew right then it was a waste of time and pointless to continue on with this dr.

Thanks, Scottie and Peggy, I appreciate your comments very much...tried to call Endo today...she was already gone for the day...not there on Saturday, so I will call Monday and hopefully speak with a nurse in the office and ask questions in regards to what the Dr deals with on a regular basis and I may also make an appointment with a Rheumy too!!  That way if I don't get any satisfaction from the Endo, I will already have an appt with the Rheumy and not waste another week in pain and frustration!!!  I just want an answer as to what this is, ya know??  sign me as She who's Tongue is on Fire!!

Joyce I think you should go to an endo, ask around see if anyone from your neighboorhood or church etc,, has a endo that they like, word of mouth is truely the best way to find a good doctor,,your past doctor was well,,,a jerk !!! glad your a smart lady and you dumped her..inexcusable and very rude.

My endocriologist is a great person if anything a bit too "chatty" there are some good endos ya gotta search,,or you can call and schedule a tour of their facilitys,,this will give you a feel for the staff and the practice tell them your "shopping" for a new doctor and want to find a good one, you can tell alot by a quick look at how the staff relates with each other and just get a general feel for the place.

keep the rheumy appt..but as you know the tyroid and para, are endocrine system..

TMJ can be a by product of hypothyroidism. Along with MANY other diseases, problems that you would not even think about. When you get to researching, it is amazing all the things that the thyroid hormones affect.

Thanks Cherie and Peggy!!  I will take everything you have said into consideration during my search...I have found an Endo that looks good (online) and will be calling her office Monday to see if she accepts my insurance and to ask other questions in regards to her practice...still looking for a rheumy, there are several in my area, I'm very grateful I don't have to travel very far, I can't imagine going 2 hrs to see one and then they are as dumb as dirt like Peggy's, "your adrenal glands do not make adrenaline"  Seriously!!  The reason I'm also looking into a Rheumy is because my fingers have been giving me fits and both my index fingers at the first joint past the nail have nodules on them and I have been in the Arthritis forum and speaking to people there and it looks like it might be Rheumatoid...so Rheumatoid along with possible Sjogren's leads me to think a Rheumy would be a good bet too...at this point I just want someone to run the necessary tests to either confirm a condition or to deny it...this has been going on for so many years that I have reached
my limit!!   Thanks so much you guys, it's so nice to know that people understand, your family maybe believes you a little, but, without a diagnosis in black and white, they don't believe for very long, you see it in their eyes...

Peggy, I forgot, you asked about my thyroid levels...they only did a TSH and it was within normal range...
it was 0.98.  Thus far there has been no other testing done...just the docs passing the buck...from what
I read on here, they do that a lot!!
