Well....the Discogram went really well...painful as hell but I survived it!! The Dr that did the procedure said that not only do I have a herniated disc but that the disc is also ruptured and is leaking fluid into my spinal column which is why I am having the pain that I am having. He said that I definately need to have the disc removed. So...we are on to the next step. Surgery will take place on Tuesday the 29th of April. I am scared ******** but I am also looking forward to it so that "maybe" the pain will go away once I heal. Hard to believe that almost 2 years ago, this started out as a problem with my shoulder or so everyone thought and now, we know for sure that it is the disc and it needs to be removed!! So...it is gonna play out like this (or so I am told).......I will go into the hospital 2 to 2 1/2 hours before surgery...I will get hooked up to an IV and they will start to give me some pain meds (I am NOT allowed to take mine before I go in)...the anithesiologist will come in and talk with me. I will then be taken into the surgery area and the anithesiologist will put me completely out. The Dr. will make a 2-3" incision into the front of my throat, he has to physically move my esophagus and voice box...then the disc will be removed.....they will then insert a cadaver bone (or some type of plastic...new procedure...he won't know for sure till he gets in there to see what it looks like), then he will put a "cage" around the disc to hold everything in place. At that time, he will move my voice box and esophagus back into place, stitch me up, put me in recovery for 2 to 2 1/2 hours and then I will be moved upstairs to my room for a total of up to 23 hours and then I will be home...no cervical collar or anything!! Like I said, I am scared but I will put all of my faith into our Lord and hope and pray that everything works out the way it is supposed to!! Wish me luck!!!!
