Weight loss and the big adventure

Next year, I propose tekking through the Pyrenees, following the pilgrims route from Saint Jean de Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Leaving the French side on my birthday on the 21st June, I hope to reach Santiago on the feast of Saint James (July 25th).

This is a precursor to my real ambition which is to undertake a three week traverse of the Walkers' Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt, topping that off with an ascent of the Matterhorn.

In order to achieve any of this I need to both improve my fitness and significantly moderate my weight. This journal will record my efforts to do precisely that.

As at April 25 2008:

Weight 254 lbs (116 kilos)
BMI 38.6
resting pulse 68 bpm
BP 162/105 (!!!) much higher that I'm used to it being

medication
Sibutramine 15 mg per day
Simvastatin 20 mg per day

supplements
Omega 3 Fish Oils 1000 mg per day
Glucosamine Sulphate 1000 mg per day

Food and exercise diary to be posted daily. Weight posted 25th day each month.
