OMG- might hurt someone

So...after hearing that there is "no salt" pasta sauce out there, I get all psyched to make pasta with meat sauce tonight for dinner!  A normal meal!  I asked my husband while he was out to look for it and he came back with it, oh, I was sooooo happy.  Someone's not going to be hungry tonight!  So, I brown the meat...getting very excited for my meal...and I just pick up the jar and start reading the ingredients...hmmm..tomato paste, soybean oil (thyca says ok on that), etc. etc....ROMANO CHEESE (Sheep's MILK, rennet, SALT).  You have got to be freaking kidding me.  He clearly didn't even read the label.  Now I have to sit there eating plain pasta with steamed veggies while he eats pasta with meat sauce.  GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  Unless someone can tell me that sheep's milk is OK he is definitely not getting any tonight!

Oh no, Shannon, that is horrible!!!!  I would have screamed!!
I don't think sheep's milk (nor goat milk) is okay - stupid freaking LID.  =(
Tell him instead to pick up canned/crushed tomatoes, and tomato paste (no salt added - VERY easy to find) and make your own sauce. Put it on low on the stove all day long -  heck, throw it in the crock pot and don't worry about it! You can add meat, onions, garlic, spices - whatever you like. Then you can have the sauce you've been wanting!  Too bad we didn't live closer - I'd make it for you!
I actually looked at my store yesterday for pasta sauce, and not a single jar is salt-free. I actually don't even like tomato sauce, but I figured hey -spaghetti and meatballs would be nice and hearty.  No such luck.

I was so mad, but what can you do?  I couldn't just eat it.  Only 15 more days until we can have cheese (or did your Endo say you could go off the diet right after your dose?).  I'm actually sort of glad that I wasn't prepared because I think I would have had more time to think about how awful it was going to be.  Today I get a delivery of LID Brownies and Cookies from my mom in CA.  She is saving my life!!!  There are actually aspects of this diet that are good, like eating more fresh fruit and veggies, but the whole nut and nut butter thing...I just don't think I'll eat them for a long, long time after this.  Like before my follow-up scan in 6 months!  Hope you're hanging in there!  Here's to our iodine deprived bodies :)

Imagine this - my brother and his wife always eat gluten free and dairy free - and they are vegetarians!!!  No milk or cheese (unless it is rice cheese or almond or rice milk), no bread or sugar (again, there's good old rice bread or buckwheat - which is not a wheat - bread)...and no meat??? I tried to eat that way for two weeks, and I have to say, I felt amazing - but it was really hard. I mean impossibly hard.  But they do it for health - and that's why you are doing LID.

You will both (Kel and Shannon) be over this before you know it.  I think your strength is amazing.  And I think its wonderful that you have eachother for support!  :)

Well Kel and I can't even having rice cheese because it has stupid salt in it!!!  I was at Whole Foods cursing aloud reading the ingredients to rice cheese, veggie cheese, etc.  Just sitting there muttering to myself in the dairy aisle, people must have thought I was completely insane.  BUT, I did find a protein powder without any soy, dairy or eggs in it, so I had some fresh squeezed OJ with protein powder in it this morning!  That was a small victory and it's kind of cool being so vigilant about something because you know it will directly impact your health and future.  You really do have to be strict about it, this isn't some fad diet to lose weight and our adherence to it is completely in our control.  For once in this process, I am actually in control of something :)

Thanks for the vote of confidence and for being so supportive.

My boss is renting me a house at the beach for my isolation period and I think they're going to lend me a laptop so that I can be on here 24/7 reporting from my "Radiation Vacation"  :)
