Thyroid update

Apr 28, 2008 05:43PM - 2 comments

Just got the every-6-months thyroid ultrasound done today.

While I like the tech this time better than the idiot newbie who did the last one, I dunno how good it's gonna be.  She's apparently been a part of the medical machine too long.  Seriously dislikes doctors....all doctors.  Can't say I blame her there, really.  Still, with that kind of job disatisfaction, is she really doing the best job for her patients that she can?

Will put a call in for a copy of the u/s and results today and pick them up tomorrow.  Probably heading to biopsy #4.

Then again, if I finally decide to bite the bullet and get my throat slit, maybe I can avoid that.  No point going through additional pain if I don't have to.

Once I get the u/s results, will be making a call down to Philly to an Endo down there for a referral to a surgeon.  I'm tired of fiddling around with this thing.

If it's benign, at least it'll be over.  If it's cancer, then the blasted thing will be out of me.  The thing that really worries me isn't the possiblity of cancer itself.  Rather, if it turns out to be cancer, that'll mean a round of radiation which will no doubt irritate the bejeebers out of my lyme and causing a worsening of symptoms.

Catch-22.

-------------

While I was sitting in the waiting room with nothing else to do but listen to the clucking of "The View" on the telly, I decided to think about just how many imaging tests I've had in the last 14 months.

1 mammogram
3 rounds of xrays (for when I broke my toe in July)
9 ultrasounds (4 thyroid, 2 thyroid pre-biopsy, 1 pelvic, 1 trans vag, 1 abdominal)
2 CT scans (1 head/neck, 1 abdominal)
1 Hida scan (gallbladder function)
1 MRI (brain)

That's one a month with 3 to spare!  Good grief!

Hey, Nyxie, if you do need a surgeon in Philly, I *highly* recommend mine.  She's at UPenn and she was fantastic.  My scar is not noticeable at all unless I point it out.  And I loved her bedside manner; she understood me and how I am (high strung & and a control freak) and worked with me.  Haven't been around much but I should start popping in more.  We still haven't gotten together for tea and I moved to Levittown back in September.

Thanks!  I was considering calling Dr Hoff for a 3rd opinion (I think you recommended him).  Turns out my nodule has shrunk!  It's gone down from 4.7cm to 3.4cm!  Woot!  Still haven't heard from Dr Doofus (the ENT) regarding what the next step is.  At the moment, I'm still on hold and doing what I've been doing.

Yeah, we really need to get together.  Maybe meeting somewhere middlish like Doylestown for a cuppa java. ;)

Glad to see you coming around again!
