Been seeing this new cardio for 2 months now. It's a 2hr drive one way, but worth it I think. She advocates for self testing for INR and this is what I have been looking for. Docs on the Eastern Shore just dont want us testing ourselves, its just like a diabetic pricking themselves, putting the blood on the strip and in the machine...and adjusting dosages, only instead of insulin it's coumadin and instead of blood glucose it's INR (international normalized ratio) to determine the level of Coumadin (warfarin) in the blood. Getting my own machine is taking a long time, but I'm sure it will be worth it not to have to go 2 hrs one way every 2 weeks. Prior to that, my old cardio had me going once a week at $25 a pop, to a coumadin clinic. SO glad I dont have to go there anymore. Will be getting coaguchek xs.
