I like the suggestion in the first bullet the best, because it doesn't involve putting something on the cat.  I am reluctant to suggest the things in the other bullets, especially for cats.  But, that first bullet should work for indoor only cats to keep the fleas from coming inside in the first place for anyone living in a house or in an apartment on the ground level.

The second two suggestions might be better for dogs than for cats.  If you use the last suggestion, be very careful about not letting the diatomaceous earth get airborne.  It is bad for both people and pets to breathe in because it is very fine particulate and will irritate the lungs and the sinuses.  This is a case where less is more if you do decide to use it.  I prefer to not use it on pets, even if it is natural.

good points FbM....any essential oil should NOT be sprayed on a cat, and the D. Earth you also need to be very careful with breathing in same goes for animals..

Thanks.  I thought this one might still be worth sharing just for the suggestion in the first bullet.  Using the D. earth works well to use around the home as a means to get rid of fleas.  It worked for me--without putting it on the cat.  We haven't had fleas in here since that first outbreak several years ago after I got rid of them with the aid of D. earth around the home.

The best thing for getting rid of fleas on the cat is still the flea comb.  Short haired cats generally like the flea comb just fine,  if they like being brushed already.  Long-haired cats might have to be shaved if the problem is bad enough.  Not a pretty sight, but still better than harmful chemicals.  Keeping the fleas from coming inside in the first place is the point of the first bullet.

By the way, rodents hate mint, too.
