I entered several photos in my very First Photo Contest this July 1011. This is/ was probably my least favorite. However I am so excited to announce that I won in the Floral Category.  Why I won with this photo when I thought I entered much better shots is beyond me. I am just grateful that the judges selected at least one of my entries..... and on my very contest.  I had to share my excitement!!

The colors are wonderful, the composition is fabulous with the orange house and ghostly palm tree in the background. You've got a great "eye."

Thanks all for you kind comments.

Greenie... I did/do like the colors too and that's why I entered it at the last moment. I am still surprised this particular photo won but as I said. I am just happy that I won with any photo.

Excellent shot of the flower... I wonder though if what gave it that extra ooomph to put it to the top was that the background was blurred, while the flower is in sharp focus, kind of giving the pic an artsy feel?

Hi LivingInHope,

Thank You!  I think you are right. I believe it's that background that makes the flower pop.... or as you better put it that "artsy feel."  I took multiple shots of the flower at different angles/sides and though the Amaryllis is nice it was this background that made it look so distinctive.
