The nuclear medicine department at my hosptal automatically provides a card with RAI dosage and date to be taken through security. I had 150 miC and my card gave readings and dates and was good for 6 months. I did go through security in 4 months and was not pulled aside but I'm glad I had the card with me. Jennifer

I have difficulty swallowing post RAI in December 07 too - my ENT says this is "globus" and is not unusual following thyroid surgery and/or RAI. I chose not to have RAI for a small papilary carcinoma 20 years ago - just went for supression with Synthroid. Last year I had a recurrence which involved metastases to my lymph glands and required a modified radical neck dissection with nerve destruction followed by RAI. I enquired about this treatment prior to my modified radical neck dissection and was told that PEI is effective on boney metastases only. I too had wanted to avoid more surgery but it isn't as drastic and painful as I feared and I am glad to have the cancer removed from my body. Jennifer

I satyed on LID until I left hospital. I began taking Synthroid the day I was discharged - my Endo doubled my dose for a few days to get me jump started. Hang in there - it'll soon be over.
