I think you could be wrong about the L-5 S-1 not being the reason for the pain. Twleve years ago, after suffering the same symptoms for over 2 years, and PT, chirorpractic, numerous pain meds, a tens unit, and epideural injections, I finally gave in to spinal fusion surgery. I had an L4-L5 fusion done in Dec 1995. I was then 52 years old. I'm a very active person, and was right back to doing heavy outside work, lifting and hauling, etc. within 6 weeks and haven't stopped since. 2 years post surgery I worked in a plant nursery unloading trucks and hauling large potted trees 8 hours a day. (Did I mention I am a 110 lb. female)...

Google lichen planus. It sure sounds like what I have, and that was my diagnosis. A dermatologist would biopsy your inner lip to be sure. My dermatologist took one look at a tiny lesion on my chest and diagnosed me. He biopsied it and he was right. You can also get it orally - that's where mine started - kind of like thrush only worse, because of the lea...
