Thank you very much for your detailed answer. As a quick follow-up question; is it possible to have a partial facial nerve palsy eg. normal movement around the eyes but dysarthria with sudden onset and too much saliva? In this case, swallowing is unaffected and there is no pain or other symptoms.

MND is very difficult to diagnose. It is usually made after other conditions have been ruled out. It is really important that you stay positive and as up-beat as possible as stress and depression can hasten the symptoms. So little is known about nerve disorders and a strong will to succeed really can make a difference. So go on, proove your doctor wrong!

Does constant slurred speech, over-active salivary glands and an "abnormal" electromyography necessarily indicate pbp. This relates to my mother and I don't know what the abnormalities are as she is too frightened to find out?

i saw an advert for herbal tablets, the makers of which claim can reverse the symptoms of als. i don't believe their claim but who knows? it began with th and had an x in it. can anyone please enlighten me?
