Brian, I would 'HIGHLY' recommend the Fentanyl patch to treat severe pain. No pun intended either because HIGHLY is capatalized!!! It does not give you a buzz as some 'big dog' pain meds do, and also no pills to keep taking aside from whatever you may or may not need for B/T pain.
