Hello,
Sorry you're having complications after the spay.
I think that you should definitely have a heart to heart with your family vet to try to understand what may be going on inside.
At the same time, I would have them double check your "wound closures" which make me a little bit nervous... Without appropriate wound care, an infection or ...
Bantaboy,
On second thought, some of your questions were never answered:
* Does this sound like a dog that does need surgery?
No question in my mind! Dogs can compensate but it doesn't mean that they are not in pain or that they can't hurt themselves some more.
* TTA and TPLO seem so drastic what if they fail?
ANY procedure can fail, including...
Hi Bantaboy,
Not to add any confusion, but I also would prefer the TPLO for a Golden... and I'm a surgeon :-)
I think that you should find an ACVS surgeon you trust and who has lots of experience with whatever procedure they use, rather than trying to find a "TTA surgeon" if there's such a thing. As Dr Dew wrote, TTA is no better than TPLO as...
Hi Doggiebuddie,
I'm really sorry about your situation...
I would highly suggest you discuss a referral to a specialist with your family vet.
And I would suggest either an internal medicine specialist who handles chemo, or an oncologist, with is a cancer specialist. Please don't be scared by the word chemo. It can be simple, affordable and with few s...

Wow J, I'm sorry you're going through all of this...
There is no question that relationships with animals are very different in the country and in the city and among our different generations.
Your care and concern is very admirable but don’t allow yourself to become burdened with these worries. If you are finding it hard to cope with these feelings, ...
Hi Jackie,
THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!!!
"Consistent with benign mixed mammary tumours."
The key word is benign. So Speedy's tumor is benign!!!
End of the story - I hope.
I would suggest you keep feeling the area, or rather the entire "mammary chains" ie from the front all the way to the back, from between the front legs all the...
Hi Kelly,
After surgery, it is important to use the E collar (plastic cone) 24/7 to prevent licking.
As a surgeon, I can only agree that it is an annoying but critical point. Call it a necessary evil.
In fact, it you leave it on 24/7, your kitty will get used to it quickly. She can eat, drink, pee, poop and sleep with it.
Taking it off and putting ...
We certainly hope we make a difference!!!
