I am considering whether or not to have my first ablation. My trigger is alcohol so I'm evaluating whether or not I can avoid alcohol "binges". A friend of mine has had Afib and has had 5 ablations over the last 30 years. He is unique in that he is a doctor and is very tall (which apparently makes you more prone to Afib) and he hardly ever drinks ANY alcohol. He has been in regular rhythm for some time. My cardiologist has told me that he would and has done two ablations on any one patient but would seek other outside help if he were unsuccessful with the second attempt. If you know what your triggers are and whether or not you can avoid them would probably be a good guide as to whether or not you would ultimately be successful.
