I am a 37 year old active female. I have had chronic groin pain that comes and goes since 2002, 16 months ago (9/06) that pain became unbearable, my Husband and I were hiking up a steep hill side while on vacation in Sept. 2006, the next day I had excruciating pain in
...
[More] my right side - groin area and the pain radiated down my thigh, about a week later the pain got to be intolerable, I then went to the emergency room, I was diagnosed with two - 2mm hemmoragic cysts and sent to a gynacologist. Since then I have seen a second gynacologist, urologist, general surgeon, neurologist, neurosurgeon, pain management doctors - three different dr's at different times over the past 16 months) I have had physical therapy, 2 diagnostic laproscopic procedures which confirmed endometriosos (which I was treated for - 10/06) and another in which 2 cysts that were removed (5/07). I have had 2 spinal injections (12/06) in my lumbar region for an annular disc bulge, during that time I also had a thoracic mri that revealed a "left paracentral disc protrusion at T10-11 that compresses the thecal sac", I was not treated for that. I have been treated for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome with ovarian vein embolization (6/07), SI Joint Dysfunction with physical therapy (7/07), manipulation and SI Joint injection (10/07). In October of 2007 the pain began to progressively worsen, primarily in my right hip, in late November I began to have sciatic pain in my right leg, from my thigh to my foot. On November 29, 2007 I was woken by excruciating pain in my entire leg, the next day I could not sit for any amount of time without my right hip burning from pain, the worst of that lasted about 4 days. I had been waiting on results from a recent MRI of my right hip, so I went to my doctor's urgent care center, the right hip MRI revealed " a 3 CM right ovarian cyst, a 3 cm soft tissue lesion within the right aspect of the uterine fundus. likely representing uterine fibroid" and no SI Joint Dysfunction. From there the doctor ordered a Lumbar MRI, it was negative. I was sent to a neurologist who ordered a thoracic MRI because she determined that areas of numbness on my right side were consistant with my lower thoracic spine. The 2nd thoracic mri has the same results - "small left paracentral disc protrusion at T10-11 with impress upon the sac but no abutment of the cord or exiting nerve roots, nor central stenosis". The neurologist sent me to a neurosurgeon to determine my treatment.
During this entire time from 11/07 to Present - I have had consistant pain in my right groin, hip, thigh and leg, the pain usually worsens throughout the day especially when walking for long periolds or sitting for long periods, the pain in my leg can be thigh, knee calf or foot, it generally moves around. I have noticed that heavy lifting seems to irritate the groin pain.
Most recently I saw the neurosurgion and he determined that because the thoracic disc protrusion is on the left it cannot be causing pain on my right side, I have a pain management doctors that says that it is possible and is willing to do an injection, the injections are quite expensive even with insurance, I have already had 4 that have not helped with any pain, but none at T10-11. My question is......Is it possible for this left paracentral disc protrusion be causing pain in my right side?
I apologize that this is so lengthly. Thank You
