I'm a lurker that just read your writing. I thought it was interesting. Though I don't drink, I like writing and researching. If you made it 3 months, chances are you can again. It's just a little setback and you can do it again. If you want some interesting links I found helpful for my research on recovering alcoholics, feel free to pm me. They may be helpful to you.

It's a little over a month since you posted your message and I'm kinda going through the same stress...I just can't wait much longer...I was told by a clinic here that from 14 days after possible infection the PCR is 98% reliable. I will likely go ahead and get tested in June. What is freaking me out mostly is that I just got a bit of a cold and read that the first stage after hiv infection is that people have cold or flu like symptoms that go unnoticed. just writing this is making me nervous.

I just got my response from Dr. Hansfield and he said that after four weeks it's NOT possible to both have HIV and test negative with PCR. So, it's conclusive after 4 weeks. It's very expensive though; mine cost $500 total ($300 for the initial at day 23 just to ease my mind, and $200 for the follow-up at day 28). I don't think you need to take one, as the doctors seem to strongly believe that a normal oral, rapid test at 6 weeks is highly, highly reliable. Try not to worry anymore, and I will try the same!
