About Me: Male, member since Apr 2008
I like to talk issues over with people and I always try to be honest and forthright.  There is not enough compassion in this world but this site, I think, really helps make a difference.  I am married to a wonderful woman - who somehow puts up with me and all my foibles ... [More] .
Have a great boy.  He really completes my world and is a joy to have around.  He isn't perfect.  Makes all A's but doesn't communicate on anything more than a basic "whats for lunch" level at home.  Anyone with ideas on opening deeper lines of communication feel free to chime in!  Fortunately I DO know that he is taking the conservative line down life's road that his parents have tried to steer him towards.  But the teen years (with all their raging hormones) are coming and who knows what will happen then!

I have had depression over the last few years and issues with self-worth my entire life thanks to a very severe up-bringing and emotional, and physical, abusive from my step-father.  (Believe it or not, he was a pediatrician!  Little did his patients or their parents know what went on behind the walls of our house!)  That has caused me to carry on the family tradition with myself as far as being super-critical of myself (I am a perfectionist, unfortunately) and therefore totally lacking self-confidence.  I have suffered with severe IBS in the past (even in High School), but fortunately that has rarely reared its ugly head for the last several years - mostly due to completely eliminating triggers from my diet like coffee or anything else with caffeine, alcohol, even cold water.  (Okay, I still splurge now and then with chocolate.  I feel like I need to give myself a little treat now and then!  LOL)

I was once an atheist but grew to realize that there was too much evidence of Christ's existence and I eventually became a Christian.  I attend a great congregation.  It is actually wrong to say "go to church" because the Greek word for "church" is ekklesia (or ecclesia) - which literally means "the called out" (it also can mean "an assembly" but, in the context of the Bible, it refers to "the called out").  And that is not referring to a church building!  What it does refer to is all those who have become obedient believers in Christ (also called, in the Bible, "the body of Christ" and "the bride of Christ" amoung other terms).  I know everybody even in my own congregation uses the phrase "go to church" - but it is important to know that "the church" isn't a brick building but, rather, the faithful in Christ.
