About Me: Female, 30, Newport News - VA, member since Jun 2008
Hi!  I am 30 years old, and I live in Newport News, VA.  I am not originally from here.  I come from a military family, and we moved around constantly so, I'm not really from anywhere or I'm from all over depending on how you look at it.  I have been just about everywhe ... [More] re both in the US and abroad.  We were even stationed in Saudi Arabia for two years.  I am in the Psychiatric Nuseing field which is very exciting, and I absolutely loved my job.  I miss it every day of my life.  I was working at Eastern State Hospital in Williamsburg, VA.  I rotated every few months from the Forensics unit (which is for the criminally insane), to Geriatrics, to Amulatory Care (which is basically for those patients who had certain medical problems and special care needs and could not be kept on a regular unit), and then to the Critical Care Unit.  In July of 2003 one of my patients kicked me in the face fracturing my jaw in two places and snapping my neck causing a pretty serious injury, and a lot of pain.  Over the years, my symptoms and pain continued to get worse and worse.  I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year.  Unfortunately, there is no legal way to prove my condition is linked to the work related accident.  I really thought the state would take care of me, but instead it has been the complete opposite.  They want to act like I don't even exist.  They have not paid my medical bills even the ones for doctor that they sent me to.  They stripped me of my medical insurance in 2004.  They refuse to even settle with me claiming they don't have money in the budget to do so.  So, now my credit is completely ruined because of them, I have to pay all my medical expenses out of pockey, my savings is all gone, I am in constant pain, every doctor I have seen says they don't treat Fibromyalgia and the ones that do refuse to see me because I don't have insurance, I am desperately in need of help, and no one from either the state or the medical community cares at all.  My luck seems to go from bad to worse everytime I turn around.  My husband, Rick, lost his vision in 1998, and had to go on disability make me the primary bread winner.  Then gradually, he stared getting extremely sick in 1999.  We went through 4 years of the doctors telling us there was nothing wrong with him that it was all in his head.  They even went so far as to write in his records that he was only coming in to get drugs even though he would tell them he didn't want drugs he just wanted someone to fix it.  Of course after that no doctor wanted to see him.  Finally, we found a doctor that said there was no way he could be faking his symptoms (such as: vomiting blood, extremely high white cell counts, and swelling of his entire midsection).  He assured us that he did not know what was wrong but he was going to find out.  After running many many tests and going through theory upon theory, a year later he ran a test and discovered that my husband had a genetic problem that caused his pancreas to be deformed.  This was preventing it from working properly causing the pancrease to swell and vibrate spilling the pancreatic juices and enzymes onto other organs which were being eating away.  Because this had gone so long untreated he had formed tumors and leasions throughout the pancreas and into the small intestine.  He has been extremely ill for 10 years now.  He is in and out of the hospital contantly, and requires a lot of care.  With the problems I have been having it has become more and more difficult to deal with the situation, and I find myself able to do less and less.  He had to have his pancreas removed last year which caused a multitude of other problems.  I now have to feed him through an IV twelve hours a day, and he is also completely insulin dependant.  I am so tired and am in intense pain all the time.  I am also having trouble walking and I am unable to sleep no matter how hard I try.  I am in desperate need of help.  I feel I cannot keep going this way, and I don't know what to do.  No one will help me.  Its like I'm invisible and no one can see how much pain I am in, or like I am unworthy of thier time or attention.  I am listing my interests though I am unable to do much of they anymore. You are in my prayers. Have you and your husband spoken to a lawyer about your issues? Seems like someone would help one or or both of you for a percentage of anything they won for you.
