severe neck

The New-Test Forum - Children's Allergies

FromTo
My 5 year old has severe neck and throat itching every time he starts to eat or drink. Sometimes it causes him to choke. I thought it was his reflux resurfacing. We went back through reflux tests and medication and it still happens constantly. It itches so bad he claws his neck and cries. There is no certain food or temperature it could be water, or milk, or any food.
we're waiting on dr. appt. Any ideas?

It is good you are going to the doc to get checked out. If the child had a recent bout that required antibiotics, there is a chance that he/she has a yeast infection in the throat. This can be uncomfortable to painful. If the child has no allergies to citris fruit, get a large lemon and juice it. (don't use packaged juices, use a fresh picked lemon). Put the juice in about 15-20 oz of water. It will be somewhat bitter to the taste. This can be cold or warm, but don't add sugar or sugar subs to it. Have the child sip on the lemon water. The mild acids of the lemon juice will draw fluids out of the swollen or sore tissues while at the same time causing temporary nerve deadening allowing pain relief. This will not interfer with medications, although it is always a good idea to tell the MD about it anyway. The child can drink lemon water all day as long or as often as needed for relief while diagnoses and treatment options are being decided. Make the lemon water up fresh every few hours as the acids from the lemon juice break down after a few hours. good luck
