Is asthma related to urticaria ??

The New-Test Forum - Asthma

FromTo
I have noticed in trying to pinpoint my urticaria and exercise induced anaphylaxis that it is closely related to my asthma. On days where my breathing is clear and good I have no urticaria whatsoever. On days where my breathing is labored I get it full force especially on my chest. Is anyone familiar w/ this and could is be significant to any other disease???jifnif

Asthma and urticaria can both have allergic triggers. However urticaria and breathing difficulties together they can signal a more severe allergic reaction. You need to go in for allergy testing, and find out what you ned to avoid. Many allergies increase in severity over time, and can lead to anaphylaxis. Irecently read about a great new test available. I don't know if insurance covers it, but you can read about it at this site.

thanks I actually wondered if it might be food related, wheat specifically. I will get it tested out once I have the baby. I dont know if you are familiar but I wondered if my symptoms of cholinergic urticaria and exercise induced anyphylaxis might be signs of mastocytosis???? I cant get a good answer anywhere.

I didn't find anything specifying a connection, but cholinergic urticaria, and exercise induced anaphylaxis both have mast cells as the major part of their pathophysiology (mechanism).
These articles should help. Especially pay attention to the parts about "pathophysiology". Also look up "mast cell degranulation". I think all of these articles will apply directly to what you are experiencing. One does say that foods can be a trigger to make exercise episodes occur, or worsen their severity.

Okay, I found it. This article mentions mast cell degranulation as part of mastocytosis. Read this article very carefully. It tells you what tests are needed to make a diagnosis.

Please let me know if all this helps, and what you find out.

I have seen a few of those sites. It does look as if I have a problem w/ my mast cells. Lets just hope that I am not in that 30% that it goes metastatic!!!! well, if i even have mastocytosis. It is kind of scary to think about. I dont have the pigmentosa...i believe that type of urticaria stays for a while..mine comes and goes w/ in a 1/2 hr, but the look is the same except for i only present w/ the rash on my chest and arms and neck. I actually was referred to a dr that specializes w/ mastocytosis out of university of michigan and I am waiting for a response via email of where to start since my drs are of no help. Thanks for all the feedback. I hope the outcome is good. I dont ever wanta give up running..but worse than that how could i ever stop walking, or emotional changes or temp changes. Life is just full of surprises!!
