Abnormal skin lesion

My son has skin lesions on his finger tips along the skin covering the finger nails. It appears dry, discolored in a transparent type way, and feels very rough. any ideas to what may have caused this skin lesion? i'm thinking bacteria from broken skin. i'm not sure.	jeffwii 9/13/2006	.
