Not really sure what area to put this in. Last year my wife had a miscarriage and we already have one healthy boy of 5 years. After having the miscarriage last year, we wanted to wait about 6 months to try again, we tried and became pregnant about 10 weeks ago. We went in this past Wednesday and the Midwife said everything looked good, but since we had the miscarriage to come back in Friday for an Ultrasound. We did, they told us that the heart rate was at 200-202 and that the Nuchal Fold was thick for this stage. She didn't say how thick, but she said the 2 together were early signs of a miscarriage and that the baby wasn't forming like it should. So if she didn't miscarry there was a good chance that it would have down Syndrome or another abnorality. Does anyone have any other information that would be positive or negative on this situation. We're scheduled to go back on august 13th to a palientologist(spelling) and have another exam or test. But I know the waiting is going to kill my wife. I've found stuff on the nuchal fold online, and what the lady explained she said well, I'm just wondering about the heartrate and/or the nuchal fold thickness combined. Any information would be great. THanks.Dukes01

I'm sorry you have to go through this. I've also heard that the 2 combined is a good indication of the baby having down's. However, I've also heard of cases where the nuchal fold is thick and somehow goes back down to normal throughout the pg. I don't know if it was an error on the technician's part or not. I really hope your's was an error and nothing's wrong. Is she going in for a 3/4d ultrasound and for bloodwork next? An amnio or CVS would give definite results, although the CVS is much more riskier this early than the amnio.
