8 ADHD Culprits Lurking in Your Home

Non-organic Produce

Non-organic Produce
Culprit: Organophosphate pesticides
Found on: Conventionally-grown (non-organic) produce
What they do: Organophosphates are a type of pesticide widely-used in growing a range of produce. A 2009 study found that children with higher levels of organophosphate residue were roughly twice as likely to have ADHD. Eating foods that contain pesticides is the main source of exposure for infants and children.
Fix it: Buy organic produce when possible, especially the fruits and veggies highest in ADHD-linked pesticides. Wash conventionally-grown produce before eating to reduce the amount of pesticides.
