A Closer Look at Common Types of Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a liver condition characterized by an inflamed liver. Approximately 4.4 million people in the U.S. are living with chronic hepatitis but many aren’t aware they have the disease. Hepatitis is commonly caused by a viral infection but can also be caused by excessive alcohol consumption, drug use, environmental toxins, bacterial infections and autoimmune disorders. Viral hepatitis can persist for many years with few to no symptoms. If left untreated, chronic hepatitis B and C can lead to liver damage, liver failure and liver cancer.
