Wishing you and your family a happy holiday season!  Hubby's most recent follow up with hepa was good (ultrasound, lab work, and check up) on 12/5/13.  Still well compensated, so sign of cancer.  Next follow up is in June.

My hubby saw his hepa last Thursday.  CT scan results were clear, no sign of liver cancer.  Lab results were good, liver is still compensated. Will have an endoscopy this month (routine screening).  Next appt for labs, ultrasound, and follow up with hepa is May.  She believes sofosbuvir will be submitted for approval about April, 2013, and be available for commercial use about the end of 2013.  She believes that sofosbuvir treatment for difficult to treat G1a’s will be sofosbuvir combined with Interferon and Ribavirin. Hope all is well with you.

Just a quick note to say hi!  Hi there.  Thanks for checking on me.  I should get my VL results mid week, will let you know.  I've been feeling super horrible lately, very tired, very sore, nauseous, but I have an okay attitude right now.  I know this takes time.  How are you?  Thanks again...

Thanx for the response. My doctor was use to seeing incivek patients so was encouraging substantial meals. I told him I thought he was wrong. I prefer the lite meal.
Not too many stomach problems and definitely can't swim like before. Last weekend had the flu and that was gnarly. These meds are starting to catch up w/ me, and have slight anemia. Love the few bursts of energy I have had. Still working and standing is tough but I'll make it.
Cheers to you gal!

Thanks Mo.  Harborview and UW Med Ctr are all connected now.  I don't think there are any specific trials with any of the new oral meds for people with Genotype 1, previously treated, and Cirrhosis yet, but she said there will be soon.  So, we are hopeful.  Thanks for your good thoughts.  Glad things are going well for you post treatment and looking forward to hearing about your SVR!

Hi Mo,
Thought I'd check in.  Hubby saw hepatologist today.  It's been three months since he had to stop triple tx w/Inc.  Counts are back up to normal.  She'll be doing an ultrasound every 6 months and labs every 3 months to check on things.  She's going to refer him to Harborview and get him on a list to be considered for clinical trials that will be coming up (I'm assuming phase 3 trials on the non Interferon based treatments).  Liver is still compensated.  He's back to normal energy wise, etc., now.
Take care,

Hey Mo, great to hear from you.  Been wondering how you're doing.  Sorry to hear about the swollen toe - you need me to call a toe truck?? haha.  Hope it clears soon.  Cycling is better than running anyway, so maybe you'll totally convert :-))  Sounds like you're doing well otherwise as your strength comes back.

It's now almost 4 months post tx and had a PCR done at  3 months - UND!!!  Suggest you do the same if you haven't already planned on it.  It is supposed to be over 99% accurate - I couldn't wait for the 6 month one in September, but will followup to be official. I've been feeling great, doing lots of riding, getting back with the faster groups, all is good.  No residuals that I'm aware of except the slight hypothyroidism which I'll check again soon.  Otherwise, life goes on :)

Thanks for the note of encouragement! I can't seem to get comfortable with scarves, but I do like hats, except for the extra heat. I'm going around with sopping wet hair a lot of the time anyway just from getting overheated so easily, and that's just in the house with no hat on. I need a hat with a built in air-conditioner! Maybe a propeller hat would help?

Thanks Mo, no new update.  The NP is going to talk to the hepa and said they'd get back to us this afternoon or tomorrow and let us know what they think.  When we spoke on Monday, the NP said, "I think stopping is coming, but I don't want to act prematurely.  Give me 48 hours to check on this and I'll get back to you".  In the meantime, I had to order his1 month supply of meds to be delivered today for this Friday's injection, etc.  The timing didn't work out to be able to delay the order long enough to wait and find out.  I hope they'll say it's OK to continue as long as he's not over VL=25 like Vertex told them last month, but having been through failed treatments twice before, I think we're prepared to hear that he needs to stop.  Disappointed, but prepared.  Thanks.

Hi Brianmo,
Just wanted to let you know my husband's week 26 VL results are DET=22 (just got the call today).  You might recall that the Vertex nurse told the NP that it was fine for him to continue as long as he stayed under 25, and he's been DET<12 for the past two months' checks.  We don't know yet if he'll continue treatment or stop.  The NP is going to discuss it with the hepatologist and get back to us in 1-2 days.  I think chances are it's a viral breakthrough, and he will have to stop, but we're not sure yet.  Currently in week 28.

Yes, tsh just slightly out of range, so will test again in one month rather than just start with meds.  Two weeks post eot and really starting to feel some improvement.  Breathing better, strength starting to return, doing some standing sprints and not getting totally winded.  Went the last 3 days in a row, 30 miles each day.  All going well and hope the same for you, too.  Just takes some time and a gradual increase in effort.  Nice to hear you're seeing a diff already.

You can blame my wife for the handle. One of her sayings is, "Up the creek without a paddle" and when we started this whole process she observed that it felt like we were more up the creek with too many paddles and not a clue how to use any of them.  It seemed like an oddly logical choice at the time :)

I am sure mine is just part of my generalized rash (pinhead red spots, hives, flat hard red blotches). I could feel the hives on my scalp and it really itched so the derm doc gave me the clobetesol soln. I actually don't have to use it much now. I did use it more when I first got it, but the scalp rash and itching are mostly gone now. Sorry yours turned out to be fungus. I hope it is cleared up by now.

Will discuss the thryoid with the hemo on Wed - not too concerned at all really.  I started high and ended a little higher, so if I need synthoid, I'm ok with that.  It's been 8 days from eot, and feeling sooo much better.   It took several days for it to really sink in, but it will.  Breathing was easier on my ride this morning and lungs were opening up much more, so could dig in a little extra.  The strength will come back with the miles.  Been thinking of you as the finish approaches.  Excited for you as well.  Well done Mo.
