I stumbled accross your email and want to let you know that my doctor put me on a powder called PREVALITE.  It come in a packet and I mix it every morning with a couple of ounces of water and some juice.  I can eat anything and it has stopped the need to go to the bathroom.  It is wonderful.  Maybe once in 5 months I might have the good old dumping syndrom hit then it is gone again.  No pain, no problem with anything I eat, please ask your doctor to let you try this.  It is 5.5 grams of powder.  It looks like it is for cholesterol but it works.  Good Luck to You. Just a quick note to say hi!

I have schizoaffective disorder and the term "high functioning" is confusing. Schizoaffective does not interfere with intelligence. The dose of Risperdal, is between you and your treatment provider but if you can tolerate an effective dose, I see no reason why he should lower it. Delusions are hard to tell when you are experiencing them. They are altered perceptions caused by schizoaffective. That's why people need to take medication. A person's reality testing and self awareness becomes poor during psychotic episodes. And as for the current medications, they are effective but don't provide a full recovery. Newer medications are in FDA study that will be out in maybe 5 years in study. I am on one of them, glycine a glutamate antagonist, have had a full recovery and hope others will.
