Hi, I was doing a search on over-drainage of shunts and saw your post below. I was wondering if the problem was ever rectified?
I'm 36 years old and had to have emergency shunt surgery in 2006 for hydrocephalus caused by an aggressive surgery for my residual brain tumours.
My shunt has been over shunting ever since and I was wondering if your daughter's problem was resolved? I now have a 6 year old daughter myself and I'm concerned I could have a stroke at any given time?
I look forward to your response.
my daughter suffers from overdrainage, but we are trying to correct to issue as i write to you guys. she has an anti-siphon devise and a strata valve at this time. last year she was close to having brain stem herniation and was rushed to the OR and 1 month later had temporal decompression done. and a month after that has posterior decompression. a month later the anti-siphoning devise was placed. Now shes overdraining and having surgery on thursday. i was reading about overdrainage and the complications that she can have due to overdraining. conditions such as brain collapse and blood around the the brain, subdural hematoma etc... I hope that you guys can get better soon cuz its a never ending battle with my daughter and a painful one, i must say. She is a brave young lady.
Hi I replied to your question about shunt related problems. I invited you to stop by my forum, but medhelp block links. it is arachnoidactivist.com we have a lot on there about shunts, hydro, arachnoid cysts, etc.
