You deserve a big bear hug!
I saw your post about never understanding this disease :( I'm not sure that any of us ever will. One day at a time is all I can do.
It's great to have friends that understand what we are going through though! Hope tomorrow is a better day.
Hugs,
Erin :)

Hey, I have talked with you in the past.. I was offline for awhile but have been back doing research.. I read your post about insulin resistance and wanted to say that it is hypothyroid related. read here: http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweightloss/a/losingweight_2.htm hope this helps you some.. We seem to have a lot in common with symptoms and i wonder if i have the same early menopause symptoms as well.

Hi there,
I've read some of your posts. I want to tell you something because I've gone through the same thing. You are still hypo for you and also hypoglycemic (yes and it is due to hypothyroidism). And I had all of your symptoms over the years. And now there are gone. So is hypoglycemia.

I just happen to stumble across this site, looking @ signs of swllen lymph nodes due to my just 13yr. old daughter will be having biopsys on neck area. I have been so stressed, they diagnoed her w/Hashi's plus goiter...many cysts & after ultrasound & CT they have deceided the biopsy's are a must, She also has the 1 like the 1 you describe by your ear, she says it hurts to touch. She's super fatigued, which i understand as i have hypo, my aunt& g'ma(they have Hashi's). I hope you feel better soon & thank you for sharing, i felt scared & sort of alone.

My own doctor is not taking new patients, so to find a good thyroid doc for several friends, I resorted to looking through a number of lists. The one I finally chose to try was from the top thyroid docs list. http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/
I found one in vicinity and read patient's reviews about the doctor. Maybe I was just lucky, but one of my friends went to him and he has been a great help, if not a life saver. The other way is to post a new message asking for recommendations for a good thyroid doctor in your area. Sometimes you get lucky this way and find a doctor that a member has personal experience with.

Thanks. My knowledge is only based on self preservation, because I had Hashi's a long time ago and got no help for a long time. I've had to learn the hard way and I've picked up a lot from the Forum and I try to do some net surfing that might be helpful to members. As far as depression and anxiety, I know from a lot of reading that it is frequently assoc. with thyroid problems. As far as the voice, I know that I've had periods where I had a very hoarse sounding voice which I related to thyroid issues, so inflamed thyroid is a very likely (but not the only) source. I know that patience is difficult when you are feeling so poorly, but it sounds like you on the right track to slowly and steadily getting your meds right and then you can determine what problems remain to be addressed.

No, I'm sure it isn't the free T4 level by itself. The "frees" are both biologically active in the body, but free T3 is four times as potent as free T4. You would think that taking a T4 med would raise the free T4 level. Did you start out on 75 mcg of Synthroid , or did you work up to that level? You're starting over with 25 mcg. How quickly is the doc planning to increase? I think he has the right plan for you, of increasing the frees and suppressing your TSH down to the low range limit.I will be very interested to see what your basal temp. shows.
06/09
The basal temperature test is to determine your lowest temperature and compare to normal of 97.6-98.2. The basal temp. is taken with a thermometer in the armpit for 10 minutes before getting up and moving around. It gives the very lowest body temperature. A mercury thermometer works best. If you have to use a digital, then turn it off and place in the armpit for 10 minutes, then turn it on and let stabilize and take reading. This is just to assure the best reading with a digital. If your body is hypo and your metabolism is low, then it will show up as a low basal temperature reading.
06/09
No idea how the Free T4 would be dropping while the TSH is going down in response to the medication. It sounds like your doctor has the right idea about treatment. Sorry to ask questions you've answered already, but what caused you to have to change meds and start back on a low dose? Also, you have mentioned having symptoms that can be due to both hypo and hyper. I would be really interested in knowing what your basal temperature is. By basal, I mean temperature taken for a full 10 minutes in the armpit, before getting out of bed. A mercury thermometer is best, but if using a digital, place in armpit and turn off for the ten minutes, then turn on and let stabilize. Normal temp is 97.6-98.2. The further below 97.6, the lower the metabolism, probably related to thyroid.
06/09
Just a quick note to say hi! Has your doctor ever tried or been successful at suppressing your TSH to the very low end of the range and getting your free T3 and free T4 into the upper end of their ranges? This seems to have been an effective approach to treating Hashi's patients while the thyroid glands are being destroyed by antibodies from the autoimmune system.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
I am so sorry you are having such a bad day. I just said a prayer for you. Maybe knowing you aren't a lone might help.
Do one thing, (no matter how small) to give your self a hug
