specialmom It did!  It warmed up though and we were waiting for the new install when the artic blast hit this week.  On the install day, it was in the low teens here and our house was 50 degrees.  I don't do cold very well. lol but all is well now! :-))

Barb135 Oh no,,, I'm sorry to hear that, but glad its all fixed now. There's something to be said for space heaters in times like that.

AnnieBrooke Don't take your furnace for granted, you mean, unless it's the middle of the summer. Then take it for granted all you want, just don't take your a/c for granted. :)

specialmom AB, true.  I took my furnace for granted until the day we tried to turn it on for the first time of the season (when it went from 80 degrees to 28 in a day, no joke).

Deep question of the day . . . why do brussel sprouts smell so bad when cooking? Oct 30 - 6
Showing 5 of 6 See All
973741 tn?1342342773
specialmom They don't taste as bad as they smell.  In fact, I made  stir fry with them and it was pretty delish . . . but my kids ran screaming and we had to air the house out!
Nov 05
134578 tn?1578157483
AnnieBrooke I was going to say, it's not the sprouts that smell, it's the house after you cook them. They sure off-gas, don't they? The only ones that don't are those fresh out of the garden.
Nov 06
973741 tn?1342342773
specialmom I don't think I've ever had fresh out of the garden ones!  Everything is better right out of the garden, isn't it?  OMG, do you GET gas from eating brussel sprouts? This would explain some things. ha

Trick is, cook them fast, or even shave them really fine and then they taste good raw. Recipes included in the above link.

Belle313 I’m lost....what are pink cows?

specialmom ha, pink cows are a delicious treat. Take a nice glass (fun to freeze it), put scoops of vanilla frozen yogurt or ice cream in glass, pour Red Cream Soda or red pop over it.  Wa la, pink cow.  Use spoon to eat ice cream and straw to drink. It's a float

Belle313 ahhhh....kind of like root beer floats only w red cream soda instead of root beer. Yummy!
The kids and I have been making homemade sundaes after dinner. It’s nice after the triple digit weather we’ve been having this summer!

Cdtrsmom 3 years ago I decided to let my beautician color my hair. I only go once a year that's all I can afford. My hair is rather long. At tax time I let her trim it and color it. It looks terrible right now. Sure wish I could go have it done. April/May=Me time

He did it!!  My anxiety prone son had a trumpet solo in front of about 300 people at his concert last night!  He was close to a panic attack before but now feels on top of the world! 03/18 - 12

AnnieBrooke That's so nice! For now, and in the long run too. You will be able to remind him of this triumph at other times when he is getting nervous over something.

Jade59 I'm so happy for your son!!  I think performing in front of 300 people for ANY 14yr old would be difficult, let alone one prone to anxiety.  I can just see the tears forming in your eyes as you proudly watched him conquer his fear. :)

specialmom Curfew, I had tears in my eyes. When the band director turned to the crowd and basically yelled his name as the soloist over the crowd cheering, I finally breathed and realized I had probably been holding my breath a while.  Joy for him, pure joy
03/18
973741 tn?1342342773
specialmom AB,, that's exactly right!  It's a life lesson to find the courage to face your fear, stand up tall when you want to lie down and don't give into the fear.  My son yelled Buzz off to his fear with that trumpet solo and as an anxious guy, that's huge.

specialmom And thanks to you too Jade, just saw your comment.  It was amazing!  This is my son with the developmental delay that they told me would never attend school on his own without an aid!  It's been (and is) such a long journey!

Barb135 Oh no, don't tell me fixing it isn't doing the trick...On the bright side, getting your kids from point A to point B safely is most important. Maybe you can find a "new, used" one that's less expensive than "new new", but acceptable and safe. Good luck.
03/18
973741 tn?1342342773
specialmom I was thinking used.  I have my van fixed for now but also a list of 'to do's' and mileage that is creeping up.  It's old, my van.  (like me?)  It's a judgement call as to when to give up and start over. Glad the creepy sound is gone though. ha
03/18
649848 tn?1534633700
Barb135 Ahh... At least you're back on the road for now.  My van is old, too, but it runs good, so we just keep going. It's always hard to know when it's time to give up on them; after you replace so many parts, it's like having a new vehicle... :-)

AnnieBrooke My son informs me that station wagons are now the thing. To me, that's the ultimate dull mom car, but he tells me my attitude is as old as the hills, and now they are seen as retro new. He wants me to buy a Volvo wagon. Hm.
03/18
973741 tn?1342342773
specialmom Kids see things I never see.  Luckily my kids are not in the what's cool for a car loop but then this means they get upset when I say I might not get a van next time.  They don't like change.
