Well, it could be. Not likely to worsen. Sometimes even using an antibiotic ointment in the nose will work. See what the prescription does for you. Consider trying some irrigation too.

Hi good it is not worse than when just blowing your nose hard . . . i'm certainly not familiar with all the kinds of bacterial sinus infections there are but p.m. is distinctive for it's malodor and being parasitic is what makes it so hard to get rid of. with these 2 i bet most people have the p.m. strain bacterial infection.

Hi Hazel . . . i have the same problem. a sputum test of mucus from the upper throat and left sinus showed "a heavy concentration of proteus mirabilis" . . . a bacterial/parasite infection . . . google this term for lots of info. irrigation with mediterranean sea salt and warm water (use the little blue bulb for such purpose) often, helps to clean the sinus cavity, and gargling often, helps clear the throat. proteus mirabilis is distinctively malodorous and disgusting. this parasite is very hard to get rid of . . . you need to find the antibiotic that works for you and one to which it is not resistant. also, check alternative medicine for sinus infection and phlegm remedies, native . . . chinese and other remedies and try them . . . i will be 2. appleannie
