About Me: Male, 62, Ottawa, ON, member since Feb 2011
I have been extraordinarily healthy all my life. I have never had a flu, colds were rare, never got the chicken pox (regardless of contact) and never had headaches. However, genetically speaking, I may be in some danger. Like, I indicated, even doctors said that my s
[More]tats were pretty impressive but there are diseases that are quite common in my family. My mother's sisters all suffered with weak hearts. My mother passed away an 57 from complications raised from rheumatic heart disease. Also, leukemia seems to be common on that side of the family as well as one incident of brain cancer. My dad's side seemed to be quite healthy until my dad got thyroid cancer at the age of 75, died at 80. And now one young cousin who has hodgkin's lymphoma. Other than those two, nothing else standouts. So, I figure, in spite of my past good health, I'm not exactly home free. Especially now, that I am perimenopausal. Different types of ailments have occurred. So since I am not used to being sick, I have become quite paranoid. I do struggle with weight. I always have but for most of my life I have controlled it and stayed at a good weight. But, of course, now I have recently gained weight. I think it is the cessation of smoking that has caused me to gain weight. I think, I went from being a smoker to a junk food addict. Nevertheless, it is my goal to live a long life so I'm doing what I can. I have been living common law for the last 16 years. We have been struggling with our relationship within the last couple of years. I have two adult children from previous marriage. I have been and am a working professional.
