Here's another website of the best in Minnesota of USA http://www.mayoclinic.org/rochester/. There are a lot of new procedures that they are using now. The doctors I spoke with said in 12 years there will no longer be any open heart surgery. If the artery that is blocked is the left artery, it is serious that he gets something done to fix it. Is he on blood thinners now? If he has a heart attack in that left artery, it will be massive and he will not survive. I can understand him not wanting open heart surgery as the rational for survival is 1 in 5 do not survive. Hope this website helps. The two best hospitals in Minnesota are Minneapolis Heart Institute and Mayo which is in Rochester.

The doctors feel that the artery is to weak to put a stent in and possibly to weak to clean the artery out? If he has open heart surgery again to bypass the artery, there will be a higher risk then the first open heart surgery. With a second open heart surgery there is a lot of scarring to go through and nodes that bleed. Does he has symptoms? I do not know of any other options. Maybe there is something experimental that he would be a good canidate for.

Which is blocked: the right coronary artery, left anterior descending artery, left coronary artery or Circumflex artery? Are they not able to remove the plaque because it was leaking before? Lipitor has been shown by studies to help slowly dissolve some cholesterol in the arteries. 100% blocked does not mean that is it totally 100% and no blood at all is getting through. There still is some blood going through the artery. My mom was 100% blocked in two of her main arteries and 95% blocked in the other. Also, she had blockage throughout her heart. When the small vessels that carries oxygen to the heart to keep the heart muscle healthy become blocked, then it is cardiomyopathy and the heart muscle becomes weak. What are the doctors saying about the blockage?
