ADD & Organophosphates

There was a news item today that claimed a connection between ADD and the use of organophosphates (a pesticide) on the food we eat. Apparently, in tests it was found that children with ADD tended to have very high levels (well above he norm) of this poison in their systems. I will see what more I can learn about this.

Even when we are conscientious in caring for our children there are hidden dangers all around us. Buying only organically grown foods would help protect us, but this pesticide is used on more than food crops. For instance, It was from inhaled organophosphates (from a venting system) that I developed emphysema.

And this is not the only poison out there. Where is the FDA when we need it?

It is scary what is in our foods.  YOu know there are hormones, preservatives, artificial flavors, artificial colors.  So many things to think about!!  Mayeb that is why there are so many illnesses and so many kids have issues these days, not just ADHD, but so many other things too!

There is so much going on that we don't know about that it is difficult to protect ourselves and our families. I am reminded of the so-called west Nile virus "epidemic" of some years ago. Without adequate notification (not that that would have helped) New York City sprayed (by air) great stretches of land. My daughter's five children were affected and were in and out of the doctor's office. It was months before they felt well. The medical community gets so excited about nothing, and that ailment was as close to nothing as you can get. Only those already near death died of it. I got it and kept it quiet for fear of becoming a medical guinea pig. It was less annoying than a cold, but the pesticide they used to get rid of this "dread disease" made a great many people ill. Especially children, of course. (If I remember correctly, they sprayed an organophosphate. No surprise.)

I have always felt that diet played a part. But I was thinking of sugar and additives. Although I have been aware that strawberries (which are the worst) and other produce were loaded with pesticides, I never made the association with ADD. With very little exception we buy organic and have taught our children to do the same. Also no junk food and little sugar. No routine vaccinations. The kids and grandkids are all slender and in good health. Part of that may be genetic, but careful choices must play a big part.

I saw the article too.  Apparently things like frozen blueberries and strawberries had a large amount of the stuff in them.  Maybe this explains a part of the large increase in ADHD findings?
