Adderall Behavior Side Effects

CIH
My son, age 6, started taking Adderall almost a month ago.  He started on 5 mg and recently been upgraded to 10 mg.  When he started taking the medication, we started seeing some improvements in his concentration level and his behavior was normal.  Now almost a month later I started seeing some bizzare behavior in him.  He would act out by screaming, or rolling on the floor when he doesn't want to do something or get his way.  I used to be able to just talk to him and make him understand.  He's more scared and hesitant to do things that he normally likes doing.  He would walk off by himself which is very alarming especially when it's towards the street.  Nothing I can do to persuade him from doing something he doesn't want to do even when he posts a danger to himself.  I am extremely concerned.  My son never ever act out like this before.  He's normally cool, calm, nonchallant and compliant kind of child .  Yes, he has problems with attention level and hyperactivity, but never this bizzare.  Is this a common side effect?  If so, how long will it last?  Should he go back to the 5 mg dosage?  Thanks in advance for your help

Being more hesitant or scared to do something would make sense because now he is in more control of his actions and is thinking about them.
You said, " He would act out by screaming, or rolling on the floor when he doesn't want to do something or get his way."  The key here is, "when he doesn't want to do something or get his way."  To me this is a behavior that he has learned will get a reaction and he now has the ability to put it into action.  In short, he is beginning to behave more like a normal 6 year old boy.
Treat this like you would any 6 year old kid rolling on the floor.
You also might want to get the book, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.  She has a lot of good ideas to help you with kids of this age who have his problems.

Definitely tell you doctor ASAP.  Side effects are so varied with each drug and effects each individual differently.  All I can say is that I went on ADD medicine and had lots of side-effects and they passed within a few weeks to a month or so.  Again, it might take longer for others.  You could consider switching to another medicine.
