Adult ADD

I seem to be exhibiting every one of these traits, most of which are causing me to be on the brink of loosing my job. What can I do to have this treated? The cheaper the better. And yes, I do have health insurance...

Traits I'm experiencing are:
1) Often fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes in work, schoolwork, or other activities

2) Often has difficulty sustaining attention in tasks

3) Often does not seem to listen when spoken to directly

4) Often does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish schoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace (not due to oppositional behavior or failure to understand)

5) Often has difficulty organizing tasks and activities

6) Often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort

7) often loses needed items (keys, pens, books, tools)

8) Is often easily distracted by extraneous stimuli

9) Is often forgetful in daily activity

I too have those exact same symptoms.  Still.  I've been dealing with depression for over 10 years and chronic back pain, so have been on various medications.  I've "suffered" with the same traits as you for a long time but have gotten so worse that it is effecting my job.  I'll get to work and and have my mind set that I'm going to do ONE thing until I FINISH it, then an hour has gone by and I hadn't even started.  I've gotten to the point where I would cry because I tried so hard.  I've been bringing work home because there aren't as many distractions, but even that I'm starting to do the same thing, or not.  Everyone close to me at work thinks I don't do anything.  I have a million things started but nothing finished.  It only gets finished when my boss says that it has GOT to be done by today!  Even though I work for the government, so losing my job is slim, I'm losing the respect that I've always had from my peers and superiors.  I finally found a psychiatrist that I think is getting the combination of meds right.  He's trying to deal with the depression first to see how I do and then work on the ADD if needed (and I can't imagine not needing to deal with it).  He also told me that he may have me take a neurological/phsychological (?) test which would help discover if my problems are concentration, attention or something else.  At that time maybe he'll know what he's dealing with.  So, no definitive answers for you except that I highly recommend seeing a Psychiatrist like I did that can prescribe drugs since you do have the insurance.  I didn't mean to ramble on but once I got started I couldn't stop.  I feel for you and I wish you good luck.
